1. Patience và Patients
Patience và patients là những từ đồng âm, phát âm giống nhau nhưng có ý nghĩa khác nhau.
Danh từ patience dùng để chỉ khả năng chờ đợi hay chịu đựng khó khăn trong một thời gian dài mà không trở nên khó chịu.
Danh từ patients là hình thức số nhiều của patient – những người nhận dịch vụ chăm sóc y tế.
Ví dụ:

2. Principal và Principle
Khi là danh từ, principal thường có nghĩa là quản trị viên, người phụ trách của trường học, điều đầu tiên xếp theo tầm quan trọng, hoặc số tiền. Khi là tính từ, principal có nghĩa là quan trọng nhất.
Danh từ principle có nghĩa là sự thật cơ bản hay quy định, hay tiêu chuẩn của hành vi.
Ví dụ:
– According to the Peter Principle, a worker will rise to his or her level of incompetence.
(Theo nguyên tắc Peter, một công nhân sẽ phát triển đến mức mình không đủ khả năng).

3. Purposefully và Purposely
Trạng từ purposefully có nghĩa là hành động với quyết tâm hay một mục đích mạnh mẽ. (Tính từ có liên quan là purposeful).
Trạng từ purposely có nghĩa là cố ý, cố tình, hoặc có mục đích.
Ví dụ:
– The prisoners… stood around singly or in small groups, wearing royal blue jump suits. Some walked purposefully, clutching sheafs of paper. Others slumped listlessly in plastic chairs or waited in line for cigarettes and candy.
